Häufig gestellte Fragen
What is Bitcoin RPC?

Bitcoin RPC is the JSON-RPC interface an application uses to communicate with a Bitcoin Core node. Read blocks and transactions, inspect the mempool, estimate fees, and broadcast signed transactions over HTTPS. It uses Bitcoin methods such as getblockchaininfo und getrawtransaction, rather than Ethereum eth_* methods. See the Bitcoin API reference.

How do I get a free Bitcoin RPC endpoint?

Create a free Chainstack account, create a project, and deploy a Bitcoin Global Node on your chosen network. Copy the HTTPS URL from Access and credentials. The Developer plan includes 3 million request units per month, up to 25 requests per second, and one node. No credit card is required.

What is the Bitcoin mainnet RPC URL?

A Chainstack Bitcoin mainnet endpoint follows https://bitcoin-mainnet.core.chainstack.com/YOUR_ENDPOINT_ID. Replace YOUR_ENDPOINT_ID with the ID from your node’s authenticated HTTPS URL. Send Bitcoin Core JSON-RPC requests to that URL using cURL, Python requests, or JavaScript fetch. See Bitcoin connection examples.

Which Bitcoin testnets does Chainstack support?

Chainstack supports Bitcoin Testnet (testnet3), Signet Testnet, and Testnet4 alongside mainnet. Each network has its own endpoint and test coins. Choose the network your application or wallet expects; test coins cannot be used as mainnet BTC. See the Bitcoin testnet comparison.

Can I query old Bitcoin transactions without an archive node?

Yes. Chainstack Bitcoin nodes are non-pruned and have txindex enabled, so every block and transaction from genesis is queryable. Bitcoin does not have the separate full-versus-archive state model used by EVM chains. Bitcoin requests consume 1 request unit each. See Bitcoin method availability.

Does Bitcoin RPC return an address’s balance and transaction history?

Standard Bitcoin Core RPC is not a general address-history API. Methods such as gettxout query individual UTXOs; they do not return every transaction for an arbitrary address. Address history requires an indexer such as electrs, available through a Dedicated Node customization. See Bitcoin method and customization guidance.

How do I retrieve a Bitcoin transaction by transaction ID?

Call getrawtransaction with the transaction ID. Set the verbosity argument to true to receive decoded fields instead of only serialized transaction hex. Chainstack’s transaction index supports confirmed transaction lookups as well as mempool transactions. Follow the getrawtransaction tutorial.

How do I broadcast a Bitcoin transaction?

Construct and sign the transaction in your wallet or application, then submit its serialized hex with sendrawtransaction. Your application controls the signing keys. Broadcasting does not guarantee inclusion in a particular block; confirmation depends on the transaction, its fee, and network conditions. See the Bitcoin tooling guide.

Can I use WebSockets or Ethereum tools with Bitcoin RPC?

Chainstack Bitcoin endpoints expose Bitcoin Core JSON-RPC over HTTPS. Use an HTTP client rather than Ethereum JSON-RPC libraries or eth_subscribe. Poll Bitcoin block or mempool methods for updates. bitcoin-cli does not support HTTPS endpoints; use cURL, requests, or another HTTPS-capable client. See Bitcoin.

Can I run a self-hosted Bitcoin node?

Yes. Chainstack Self-Hosted supports Bitcoin Core on mainnet, Signet, and Testnet4. Deploy on infrastructure you control with monitoring, automated updates, and self-healing operations. Check the supported deployments and installation guide.

How much does Bitcoin RPC cost?

Start with the free Developer plan. Paid plans start at $40 per month with annual billing. Unlimited Node adds flat-fee capacity from the Growth plan, and Dedicated Nodes require Pro or above with infrastructure billed separately. Compare the current plan features.

Bitcoin RPC API: endpoints, transactions, and testnets

Connect your application to https://bitcoin-mainnet.core.chainstack.com/YOUR_ENDPOINT_ID and replace the example ID with the credential from Access and credentials. Chainstack supports Bitcoin Mainnet, Testnet, Signet Testnet, and Testnet4 through separate HTTPS endpoints. Use Bitcoin Core JSON-RPC with an HTTPS client such as cURL, Python requests, or JavaScript fetch. See the Bitcoin tooling guide.

Call getblockchaininfo for network and sync status, getblock for block data, getrawtransaction for transaction lookup, and sendrawtransaction for transactions signed by your application. Chainstack Bitcoin nodes are non-pruned with txindex enabled. Full block and transaction history does not include an arbitrary address-history index; that requires a separate indexer. See Bitcoin method availability.
