World Chain

World Chain is an OP Stack Layer 2 rollup built to prioritize verified humans onchain, with World ID identity, ETH as the native gas token, and Ethereum-secured settlement through the Optimism Superchain.

Performance

World Chain Mainnet is an OP Stack Layer 2 running an op-reth execution client with standard Ethereum JSON-RPC, archive access, and full debug_* and trace_* namespace support. WebSocket subscriptions are available for real-time event streams.

Industry use case

World Chain is designed for human-first onchain applications: proof-of-humanness integrations, sybil-resistant rewards, gated participation, and consumer apps targeting real users at scale. World ID’s onchain zero-knowledge credential lets developers gate app access to verified humans, while the network itself grants them priority blockspace and gas subsidies.

ConsensusOP Stack optimistic rollup secured by Ethereum. Sequencer produces L2 blocks, and state roots are posted to Ethereum with a challenge period. World Chain is part of the Optimism Superchain and inherits its shared security model.
Public / Private / PermissionedPublic and permissionless for users and developers. Sequencing is currently permissioned as part of the Superchain roadmap toward decentralized sequencing.
Smart contractsYes
Smart contract language(s) supportedSolidity; EVM-compatible (fully compatible with Optimism/OP Stack contracts)
Transaction privacyWorld ID uses zero-knowledge proofs so users can prove uniqueness anonymously, but transaction data itself remains public.
Transaction visibilityPublic by default. Transactions, contract state, and event logs are queryable through public RPC endpoints and Worldscan (worldscan.org).
Transaction orderingThe sequencer orders transactions with priority given to World ID-verified users, who receive priority blockspace and partial gas subsidies over unverified traffic. Standard priority-fee mechanics apply for non-priority transactions.
