Global Nodes

Connect to Zcash Mainnet and Testnet through geo-balanced infrastructure that scales with request volume and routes traffic for reliable access across regions, with Bitcoin-style JSON-RPC over HTTPS.

Create Zcash node →

Dedicated Node

Run Zcash workloads on isolated Zebra infrastructure across all Chainstack locations, with single-tenant resources and greater control over node configuration.

Request a node →

Unlimited Node Zcash logo
Zcash Mainnet and Testnet

Build with managed Zcash endpoints on Mainnet and Testnet. Every node runs Zebra, the Zcash Foundation’s Rust node, serves Bitcoin-style JSON-RPC over HTTPS and transparent transaction history from the first block. WebSocket is not supported.

SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified.

Create a node →

Built for Zcash, served by Zebra.

Chainstack runs Zebra, which replaced zcashd after its end of support in July 2026, so you get the supported node implementation without operating it yourself.

JSON-RPC API

Use getblockchaininfo, getblock, getrawtransaction, and sendrawtransaction for chain data and transaction broadcast. Any Bitcoin-style JSON-RPC client works.

Zcash tooling →

Transparent address index

Look up the balance, transaction history, and unspent outputs of transparent addresses with getaddressbalance, getaddresstxids, and getaddressutxos, without running an indexer.

Address index →

History from the first block

Zcash nodes run in Full mode and serve transparent transaction history from the first block. Every request is billed as full at 1 request unit, with no archive split.

Available methods →

Broadcast, don’t custody

Zebra is a node, not a wallet. Build and sign transactions, including shielded ones, with a wallet or Zcash SDK, then broadcast them through sendrawtransaction. For wallet sync, Zebra serves Sapling and Orchard tree state through z_gettreestate and z_getsubtreesbyindex.

Wallet methods →

One node. Three ways to call it.

Copy your endpoint from Access and credentials in the console, then run any of these.

curl -X POST YOUR_CHAINSTACK_ENDPOINT \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"jsonrpc": "1.0", "id": "1", "method": "getblockchaininfo", "params": []}'
import requests

payload = {
    "jsonrpc": "1.0",
    "id": "1",
    "method": "getblockchaininfo",
    "params": [],
}

response = requests.post(ENDPOINT, json=payload, timeout=15)
info = response.json()["result"]

print(f"Chain: {info['chain']}")
print(f"Blocks: {info['blocks']}")
const ENDPOINT = 'YOUR_CHAINSTACK_ENDPOINT';

async function getBlockchainInfo() {
    const response = await fetch(ENDPOINT, {
        method: 'POST',
        headers: { 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
        body: JSON.stringify({
            jsonrpc: '1.0',
            id: '1',
            method: 'getblockchaininfo',
            params: [],
        }),
    });

    const { result } = await response.json();
    console.log(`Chain: ${result.chain}`);
    console.log(`Blocks: ${result.blocks}`);
}

getBlockchainInfo();

Learn more about Zcash
What is Zcash?
Zcash (ZEC) is a proof-of-work, UTXO-based Layer 1 blockchain launched in 2016. It adds optional shielded transactions secured by zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs), so the sender, recipient, and amount can stay private while the transaction remains verifiable. Transparent transactions work like Bitcoin’s.
How do I get a Zcash RPC endpoint?
Create a free Chainstack account and sign in. Click Add node, select Zcash, choose Mainnet or Testnet, and deploy a Global Node or Dedicated Node. When the node is running, open Access and credentials to copy your HTTPS endpoint.
What is the difference between a Zcash Global Node and a Dedicated Node?
A Global Node provides shared, auto-scaling RPC access through geo-balanced infrastructure. A Dedicated Node provides isolated, single-tenant infrastructure with predictable performance and greater control over node configuration, and requires a Pro plan or higher. Dedicated Nodes can also run lightwalletd for light wallet clients. Global Nodes serve Mainnet and Testnet.
Which node software does Chainstack run for Zcash?
Chainstack runs Zebra (zebrad), the Zcash Foundation’s Rust node. It replaced zcashd, which reached end of support in July 2026. Zebra is a node, not a wallet, so it serves chain data and relays transactions but does not hold keys or build shielded transactions.
Is the Zcash RPC API compatible with Ethereum?
No. Zcash is a UTXO chain and uses a Bitcoin-style JSON-RPC API with methods such as getblockchaininfo, getrawtransaction, and sendrawtransaction, not the Ethereum eth_* interface. Zcash endpoints on Chainstack are served over HTTPS only, without WebSocket.
Do Zcash nodes keep full history?
Yes, for transparent data. Zcash nodes run in Full mode and serve every block and transparent transaction from the first block, and the address index serves getaddressbalance, getaddresstxids, and getaddressutxos. Shielded transaction contents stay encrypted on-chain.
Is the Zcash RPC free?
Yes. The Developer plan is $0 and includes 3M request units per month at up to 25 requests per second. Every Zcash request is billed as full at 1 request unit, with no archive split.
What are the uptime and performance guarantees?
Chainstack Global Nodes and Dedicated Nodes are built for highly available, low-latency production access. Custom uptime SLAs are available on the Enterprise plan.

Notes for Zcash API

Zcash uses a Bitcoin-style JSON-RPC API over HTTPS, not Ethereum JSON-RPC, and WebSocket is not supported. Chainstack nodes run Zebra (zebrad), which replaced zcashd after its end of support in July 2026. The standard method set is available, including getblockchaininfo, getblock, getrawtransaction, sendrawtransaction, getaddressbalance, getaddresstxids, and getaddressutxos. Zcash nodes run in Full mode and serve transparent transaction history from the first block, and every request is billed as full. Shielded pool state is available through z_gettreestate, z_getsubtreesbyindex, z_validateaddress, and z_listunifiedreceivers. Node-admin and mining-submission methods (stop, addnode, generate, invalidateblock, reconsiderblock, submitblock, and getblocktemplate) are not exposed, and Blockbook-style bb_* methods are not included. Dedicated Nodes can also run lightwalletd for light wallet clients. Zebra does not hold keys, so use a Zcash wallet SDK to build and sign transactions.

You can also access Zcash through the Chainstack MCP server — query onchain data, deploy nodes, and search Chainstack docs from Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, ChatGPT, Codex, Pi, Gemini, or any MCP-compatible or SKILL-compatible AI agent.
