Learn more about Stellar
What is Stellar?
Stellar is a payments-focused Layer 1 blockchain launched in 2015, using the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP) for federated Byzantine agreement. Ledgers close roughly every 5 seconds. Soroban, Stellar’s Rust/WASM smart contract platform, sits alongside native payment, offer, and path-payment operations that don’t need a contract.
How do I get a Stellar RPC endpoint?
Create a free Chainstack account and sign in. Click Add node, select Stellar, choose Mainnet or Testnet, and deploy a Global Node. When the node is running, open Access and credentials to copy your HTTPS endpoint.
What is the difference between a Stellar Global Node and a Dedicated Node?
A Stellar Global Node provides shared, auto-scaling RPC access through geo-balanced infrastructure. A Dedicated Node provides isolated stellar-rpc compute resources, predictable performance, and greater control over node configuration and history retention depth.
Does Stellar use a native token?
Yes. XLM (7 decimals) is the native asset of Stellar, used to pay transaction fees and to fund minimum account reserves.
Is the Stellar RPC API compatible with Ethereum?
No. Stellar uses its own JSON-RPC API via stellar-rpc rather than the Ethereum eth_* interface, and it does not offer a WebSocket endpoint. Methods like getLedgers, getLedgerEntries, sendTransaction, and simulateTransaction match Stellar’s ledger and Soroban architecture. Use the official stellar-sdk libraries for JavaScript, Python, and other languages.
What are the uptime and performance guarantees?
Chainstack Global Nodes and Dedicated Nodes are built for highly available, low-latency production access. Dedicated deployments can include a 99.99% uptime service-level agreement, subject to the selected plan and service terms.
How can I monitor Stellar node usage and performance?
Use node analytics on Chainstack to track request volume, response time, and node health from one place.

Notes for Stellar API

Stellar uses its own JSON-RPC 2.0 API via stellar-rpc, not the Ethereum eth_* interface, and does not expose a WebSocket endpoint. Use the official stellar-sdk libraries (JavaScript, Python, and others) rather than an EVM SDK. Stellar Mainnet reaches ledger close in roughly 5 seconds via the Stellar Consensus Protocol. Standard methods include getHealth, getNetwork, getVersionInfo, getLatestLedger, getLedgers, getLedgerEntries, sendTransaction, getTransaction(s), simulateTransaction, getEvents, and getFeeStats. Global Nodes serve a rolling history window on the bounded read methods; getLedgers can reach full ledger history through the network’s public history archive.

You can also access Stellar through the Chainstack MCP server — query onchain data, deploy nodes, and search Chainstack docs from Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, ChatGPT, Codex, Pi, Gemini, or any MCP-compatible or SKILL-compatible AI agent.
